New York Neighborhoods as Chain Store Logos
Even a Brit, who's only been in New York for seven years has witnessed the change taking over NY. The corporate takeover.
Mom and Pops are bulldozed (or maybe bought out but more likely priced out) by corporations.
Chains infect neighborhoods like a homogenizing disease.
I love these corporate logos designed by James Campbell Taylor in his "City In Chains" series. I'd seen the above Greenwich Village/Starbucks stickers on lamp posts. Now I know the creator behind this social art. Check out the rest of the series on Taylor's website.
Will he create logos for the "fake" neighborhoods of SoBro, SoHa, ProCro et al? Let's hope not.
